Wild Orchids in Jersey

If you are visiting Jersey in May or June, don't miss a visit to see the orchids of Le Noir Pre near St Ouen's Pond in bloom. The species growing here include the Jersey Orchid (Orchis laxiflora), the Southern Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) and the Pyramidal Orchid(Anacamptis pyramidalis.) The fields are a riot of colour when they bloom.

Pyramidal Orchids are deep pink, and can also be seen along the footpaths of La Mielle de Morville during the summer months.

The Green-winged Orchid (Orchis morio), Early Purple Orchid and the rare Lizard Orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum) are found in the nearby sand dunes of Les Blanches Banques.

Autumn Lady's Tresses flower in late summer and can be found in churchyard lawns.

Kempt Tower Interpretation Centre in St Ouen's Bay has information about wildlife in Jersey, and will be able to tell you when the orchid fields are open for visits.

If you are interested in orchids, don't miss a visit to the Eric Young Orchid Foundation . January and February are the best months to see the cultivated cymbidium orchids in bloom, but their display house has a huge selection of orhids in flower all year round.
